Wolff was born in November of to actress and writer Polly Draper and jazz pianst Michael Wolff as the younger brother to actor and musician Nat Wolff. Alex and his older brother Nat was very young when they came up with the name " The Naked Brothers Band " in the bathtub. They later formed the music group with their friend Cole Hawkins. The name was changed when Cole left, and it became The Silver Boulders with the addition of Nat's pre-school friends. After the band split up in after the series cancellation, the two brothers became a duo titled Nat and Alex Wolff. He then reprised his role as the drummer of the band in the mockumentary series of the same name from to where he had wrote and preformed more songs by each season. After three seasons and nearly 40 episodes on the air, the show came to an end on June 13, , but so many of the stars have stayed in Hollywood.
